It takes a lot to stop me on my tracks by an interview and be wowed these days. The constant noise that is the internet, 24 hour satellite TV, the bloke next door yabbering on his phone and all else make solitude a thing of the past and yet… And yet, you read an interview like the one Surfing Mag have done with Dustin Humphrey and you think ‘ah shucks, now there’s a life that’s got it right.’
The former surf photographer, who helped discover most of the best waves Bali had to offer whilst most surfers were sucking on the proverbial teet, is now fully ensconsed in a life of motorbike repairs, art teaching, photography instruction, hanging out… Basically doing all the good stuff but with the backdrop of Bali and a legendary status behind him.
You see after hanging up the lens D. Hump decided to put all his passion into his bike shop come board shaping come guitar making come photography studio that is the Temple of Enthusiasm.
Check it out in the below vid. But first a word from the man himself “This place pulls together all my passions: photography, surfing, motorcycles, music and art. Plus, I have a three-year-old son now and after ten years on the road — which was everything I could have hoped for — I was anxious to stay home a bit more. This was a whole new set of challenges, and I like feeling challenged.” D.Hump replied when he was asked why there is a sudden change of art.
What a legend. What a life.
